Sweatshirts
Material: Usually thick, soft materials like fleece or heavy cotton.
Style: Typically collarless with a crewneck. They can also come with hoods - although these are often referred to as hoodies – and zips.
Features: Tend to include cuffed wrists and a cuffed waistband.
Warmth: Sweatshirts are usually designed for insulation, making them suitable for cold weather.
Uses: Sweatshirts started out as a gym-wear staple, but are now perfectly acceptable to wear in casual or even smart casual settings if styled correctly.
How to Style: Plain, well-fitted sweatshirts can be paired with smart trousers, shirts or a skirt for a great smart-casual look. Alternatively, sweatshirts also look great with leggings and trainers for a sportier style.
Long Sleeve T-Shirts
Material: Usually light and breathable soft cotton or cotton blends.
Style: Very similar to a standard T-shirt, with sleeves that extend to the wrist.
Features: The design of the sleeves can vary, from fitted sleeves to flared sleeves to sleeves with cuffs!
Warmth: Long sleeve T-shirts offer less warmth and insulation and are better suited to mild weather or for layering in cold weather.
Uses: Long sleeve T-shirts are incredibly versatile and can easily be dressed up or dressed down depending on the setting. They also serve as a great base layer under a wide range of garments as they provide an additional layer of warmth and can be layered without adding bulk.
How to Style: In casual settings, long sleeve T-shirts can look great worn underneath graphic tees, or layered under hoodies. For a more formal occasion, a plain long sleeve paired with a structured blazer and formal trousers or skirt can look smart and sophisticated.
